2023 in Sudan was catastrophic: nine months of brutal conflict and widespread violence devastated the country, leaving Khartoum in ruins and Darfur’s major cities burned. The turmoil spread, precipitating a national collapse. Amidst this chaos, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) alongside local and international partners, overcame immense challenges to provide lifesaving suppor reaching 445,600 people across Sudan with critical aid like cash assistance, water, shelter, and education. Grateful for the humanitarian donors’ increased support and trust, our response showed that it is possible to scale up strategic assistance in Sudan despite the. Yet, this crisis was one of 2023’s most overlooked.
