Keeping up with COVID-19: essential guidance for NGO security risk managers – Module B8: Acceptance and the changing security environment

Module B8: ‘Acceptance and the changing security environment’ is in Section (B) ‘Operational Security’ of our three part series ‘Keeping up with COVID-19: Essential guidance for NGO security risk management’.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the security environment in which many aid organisations operate in numerous and unexpected ways, turning low-risk contexts into higher-risk ones, and making high-risk contexts even more complex. Whether aid organisations are responding directly to COVID-19 or working on other aid projects within a context affected by the pandemic, this module highlights the need for all aid organisations to understand how COVID-19 impacts their acceptance and, consequently, their security.

This module was written by Adelicia Fairbanks (Independent Consultant and Research Associate at Humanitarian Outcomes), based on a literature review and consultations with Fadi Halisso (Basmeh & Zeitooneh), Paul Harvey (Humanitarian Outcomes), John Johnson (MSF), Armstrong Maina (PSI), Peter Ott (Trócaire), and Abby Stoddard (Humanitarian Outcomes).
