Description

The EU Delegation in Geneva is hosting an event to launch the GISF and Humanitarian Outcomes global research report assessing the current state of practice in humanitarian security risk management (SRM) along with the Against Hunger (ACF), Médecins du Monde (MdM) and Humanity and Inclusion (HI) report on the ‘Advancing the protection of humanitarian and health workers’

Participants will have the opportunity to hear about the key findings from both reports and engage in meaningful discussion on what the future needs for effective security risk management and the protection of staff in the humanitarian space.

The GISF and Humanitarian Outcomes research report documents recent developments, challenges, gaps, good practices and highlights some recommendations for consideration. The first-panel discussion will consider the changing threat environment within the humanitarian space and the key findings of the report.

The second panel will be led by HI, ACF and MdM and will present the key findings of their report.

The third and final panel will gather a number of experts from the humanitarian space, both NGOs and Donors, to discuss the future challenges for keeping aid workers safe. The world in which humanitarian action takes place is changing, digital communication, cyber crime, climate change and economic hardships are all driving security risks faced by aid workers; this, along with political involvement and counterterrorism measures and lack of confidence in deconfliction measures, means that it is becoming more complex to achieve and maintain access to crisis – affected populations.

A broad audience of humanitarian practitioners, policymakers, and humanitarian SRM professionals are welcome.

Networking and refreshments will follow.

RSVP: Please RSVP by completing this survey and indicating whether you would like to attend in person or online. While this is largely an in-person event, the first part of the event will be livestreamed. Note that space for in-person participation is limited. If you have signed up for the livestream, and for those not able to join in-person, you will receive a WebEx link closer to the date.

We hope you will join us for this important discussion, and we look forward to your participation.

A more detailed invitation with the programme, as well as connection details will follow shortly.
