Description

The groups in the Organisations in Solidarity have committed to creating a diverse and inclusive community, one that reflects anti-racist values and ideals. To achieve that goal, they must attract diverse staff AND create a safe workspace that will allow those staff to thrive.

The OiS Safe Workspaces Working Group invites all staff from OiS organisations to participate in a webinar that will explore this space. The purpose of this interactive event is two-fold:

  1. To hear different approaches that organisations and individuals have taken or might take to cultivate and sustain a safe workplace and;
  2. To allow participants to share their experiences in short anonymous surveys and in small, safe breakout spaces.

Sessions will include a case study from one large organisation that is seeking to create a safe workspace following public accounts of a failure to do so, lessons from experts who have developed demonstrated practices to help create a safe workspace, and multiple small break out discussions among participants, organised by criteria like the type and size of your organisation.

The hope is to use this webinar to hear from people seeking to create or help create safe workspaces, to give black, indigenous and staff of colour, as well as other staff the chance to safely share some of the problems they face in this community, and to collect that information anonymously to give the community a benchmark for where organisations in the OiS stand and what might be done to improve the community and create a more safe workspaces.
