Duration: 32 hours over 4 consecutive days

Location: Kettering, Northamptonshire, UK

An intensive, threat-specific level of personal security training course, designed for individuals travelling to or based in severe risk environments. It includes threat situation-specific information, protocols, and active simulations and scenarios. The curriculum covered on this course is similar to that referred to as HEAT or HEFAT training (Hostile Environment Awareness Training). The First Aid certification on this course is NUCO Trauma First Aid (12 hours). This course certificate is based on four intensive days of training, including active simulations and scenarios.

The AIM of this course

To prepare staff to work in/travel to, the field in an insecure environment under the umbrella of an existing security framework, by highlighting the most prevalent threats and risk reduction measures and giving an overview of what precautions to take and what provisions can be expected from the agency.

Individuals who complete this course should renew their learning within three years. This can be done either by retaking the full course or by completing the two day Personal Security for Field Staff (HEAT) Refresher. The First Aid certification on this course is NUCO Trauma First Aid (12 hours). This certification is only available on the full course.

Key Learning Objectives for this course

By the end of the training participants should be able to:

  • Understand situational awareness to assess specific situations and take appropriate action.
  • Develop one’s personal strengths, weaknesses, behavioural habits and attitudes and understand how these impact on security.
  • Understand the most relevant security concepts and terminology to enable a common understanding of security and inform preventative and contingency planning.
  • Understand the link between image, acceptance and security and how individual and organisational identity and context-specific presence, programming and operational habits and behaviour impact on vulnerability.
  • Understand sexual aggression and how to reduce risk of this threat including awareness of risk, prevention and response and how this differs for different demographics.
  • Understand, recognise and manage different types of stress and how to cultivate personal and team resilience dealing with trauma and traumatic events including critical incident response.
  • Understand what threat and vulnerability mean and how to assess real or perceived risk and apply personal risk assessment, risk reduction measures and responses to a range of threats including:
    • Improvised Explosive Devices and Bombs
    • Indirect and Direct Fire, Shelling and Weapons
    • Dealing with aggression Interrogation, Detention and Arrest
    • Kidnapping, Abduction and Hostage Taking
    • Hostile Checkpoints
    • Civil Disorder
    • Criminal Threats including petty crime and carjacking.
  • Be equipped with the first aid skills and knowledge to react appropriately, preserving life in a range of injuries.

Cost

The cost above is inclusive of Accommodation, Food, and transport to and from the nearest mainline railway station.

The course Accommodation at Kettering is basic with shared rooms being offered in the main, although a few single options are available and if you have a valid reason for not wanting to share so please contact us. Otherwise single occupancy can be guaranteed at a surcharge of £50 per night.
