Intensive, dynamic hostile environment awareness training to learn and apply approaches and measures to improve your personal security.

This fully residential course is an intensive, dynamic hostile environment awareness training (HEAT) where you will discuss, learn and apply approaches and measures to improve your personal security when living and working in insecure environments. Personal Security for Humanitarians has been designed specifically from an NGO perspective to provide the most relevant and challenging training for NGO workers. Essential theory learned in the classroom will immediately be put into practice in real-life simulation exercises.

At an additional fee, participants have the possibility to extend their Personal Security for Humanitarians course by one day to cover First-Aid skills and knowledge, covering Emergency First Aid at Work and humanitarian content (EFAW) + humanitarian content. This will enable participants to react appropriately in various critical situations, preserving life in a range of injuries, including but not limited to: providing aid to an unresponsive casualty and a choking casualty; providing First Aid to a casualty with catastrophic, severe and mild external bleeding; minor injuries and the use and application of a defib (AED). Those who undertake this module will be able to get a certification “Emergency First Aid at Work”, which satisfies the requirements of the UK regulatory body for First Aid – the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Please note that you will be required to arrive in the late afternoon of the day before the training for registration, this is, on April 18th 2023 if you have opted for the three-day course, or on April 17th 2023 if you have opted for the four-day course. The course fee includes three nights of accommodation, full board at the venue (four if you have selected the First-Aid option) and you will be expected to depart after the course closes on the last day (Friday, April 21st). If you require to stay for an additional night, please email us on training@redr.org.uk and we will help with the booking, but you will need to pay extra directly to the venue.

This venue, the Fire Service College, provides basic accommodation on site as well as food (all included in the fee).
