Description | The COVID-19 outbreak may go down in History as one of the most severe crisis for international cooperation. As nations are closing their borders, interrupting global value chains, and trying to protect their domestic economy and employment, the pandemic is jeopardizing regional integration across different continents. On the contrary, a globally coordinated response seems more needed than ever. Susana Malcorra is Dean at IE School of Global and Public Affairs and was previously Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Republic of Argentina. Becoming in 2012 Chief of Staff for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon gave her invaluable experience for both humanitarian aid and peacekeeping operations. She has handled complex negotiations as a diplomat in various countries. She coordinated the mission to eliminate Syrian chemical weapons and the first ever Ebola emergency response in West Africa.
